Welcome to Universidad del Este's (UNE) Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Self-Study website.
Every 10 years, UNE undergoes a self-study process in order to assess the institution and comply with the decennial evaluation required by the MSCHE. This is a vital part of the re-accreditation process and an opportunity for strengthening the institution through exhaustive assessment. The self-study process will end by April 2015.
Universidad del Este (UNE) has a long history participating in the academic environment of Puerto Rico; starting as a two-year institution, Puerto Rico Junior College, and developing through the years until becoming what we are today: a university with a main campus (Carolina) and five off-site locations in Puerto Rico, and four branch campuses in the United States. Since its beginnings, UNE has contributed to the Island’s education by successfully preparing professionals in diverse degrees through a variety of learning modalities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Our institution was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) for the first time in 1959, and since then it has been reaccredited every ten years. This process is of great importance because, in addition to, permitting our students to benefit from Title IV Pell Grant funding, it offers an opportunity to reflect upon our institutional performance; identifying our strengths and areas for improvement.
In January 2013, we began the preparation process for the reaccreditation visit in 2015. We exhort the university community to participate, and contribute to this process, for the benefit of us all. We will be providing updates periodically on our webpage, Facebook, and Twitter. We invite you to keep abreast of the reaccreditation developments.
